Hot Tub

Yes, the AustinHill Resort needs a hot tub no matter what coast we're on...  However, we'll be avoiding this mess by getting a one-piece unit that we runs on 220v.

All we need to do for this is site prep- pour an 8 x 8 slab and install 220v service before the snow flies so we can have a hot tub the 2002 winter!

We bought an artesian gold opal tub from Crocker Sales in Woburn.  These guys really know their stuff- they sell approximately 900 a year!
AND, on 9-dec-02, it got delivered.
George did the install (220v, 50A gfci, etc...)
WE wimped out on the slab... basically, the ground froze so we couldn't pour until next spring- so we built this lovely 8x8 PT platform to park it on for the duration....

Fast forward a year- it is now Summer, 2003. After several false starts, we decide to move the hot tub and make it part of the deck like we always planned on doing.
First step was to build the new platform; this was built w/2 x 10 PT 12" OC on 12" sonotubes sunk 4' underground... it's not going anywhere...
first  we had to move the hot tub off it's old pad so george could reuse the 1" PT plywood for the new platform.  the tub weighs about 550 lbs; we moved it by jacking up one side and sliding 1"PVC pipes under it, then just rolling it on 2 x 10's...!
Once the new platform was built, george set up a couple of rails to move the tub on.  Then MJ and George just skidded this down hill until it was firmly planted on the new platform...!  we thought about using the pvc to roll it, but with that much angle, we knew that if it got away from us, it would have wound up in the swamp...
and here it is, in it's final home.  next step is to build a deck around it...
