the Girls' Bathroom

August, 2007.
The girls bathroom is finally (almost) done!
This one took lots longer than anyone ever thought...

HERE's what we started with.

The floor was vinyl-asbestos tile, the tub was rusting and the faucet barely worked... pretty suboptimal.
So around March, 2006, we started ripping it apart.
George couldn't remove the tub intact- it was built in place- so he had to cut it in half to get it out..!
Everything else went out the window ;-)
Then we reframed the window and insert a new, double-pane beauty- what a concept.
HERE we've finished the bathroom window and we're doing their bedroom window.
Back to the bathroom- the new tub that was wider than the old one, so the drain didn't line up.
George had to chisel away a bunch of concrete and then- got LUCKY! turned out they had banded the drain together 40 years ago, so he was able to disconnect the old band...
...and reconnect the new to PVC.
Fast forwarding almost a year (after a slight detour to redo the kitchen)-
  • the drain is done
  • the hot and cold water rough is done
  • the tub is installed, and
  • the skirt framed!
  • A few weeks later and YOW! new floor tile, grouted and all!
note- this is the second floor that got put down. the mastic didn't set up right on the first attempt and george had to rip it all up!
and some glass wall tile, too!
