| HERE's where the kitchen needs to end to accomodate the new island. |
| First we dug a big hole (and discovered the pool gas line and 220V-50A service right in the middle of it!) |
| We needed a bigger footprint for the outboard beam end, so we did a bigger hole there and poured a 24 x 24 x 8 pad w/2 layers of rebar- it's not going any place any time soon. |
| Then we built some forms and braced them up good. Then reinforced everything with rebar drilled back into the house and attached to the footing rebar. |
| Forms removed- no blowouts- pretty clean (and big post bracket in place!) |
| Another view- this time adjusting the pour to accomdate the door sill. |
| Next step- dig a 20" deep trench running the length of the house so we can get new gas service back to the grill and cooktop. |
|
Our plumber- Zeke with T.A.Slack- was the best- he singlehandedly put this together in 3.5 hours. (which is good- the next day we had 40 people over for a party and needed the grill...!) |
| We decided to go with Ikea cabs. Here's what they look like on the pallet- all 2700 lbs of them. |
| Ikea cabinet hell- we built all of them in one long weekend. |
|
How we're going to replace the bearing wall between the kitchen and family room. All's we needed was a W12x30 beam, 22.5' long, weighting 660 lbs. |
|
We wanted to pour a big pad under the inhouse end of the beam, but there were way too many services to move (water, drain, electric...) So we got a little bracket built out of 3/4" steel and buried it instead. It will not move ;-) |
| Where the bracket went (used to be a subz there, wasn't there..?) |
