Snow Removal

Hopefully you never need to read this page…
However, we've found that if we don't scrape the driveway down to bare pavement, 2 wheel drive vehicles don't get out…
For small amounts (< 3"), we generally clear the driveway by hand...
For larger snowfalls, the snowblower works best.
In fact, the snowblower works best  in 6-9" of light to medium  snow.
To prep the snowblower-
Drag it backwards onto the driveway and turn it around so it's pointed away from the garage
Spray the inside of the chute with silicon spray
To start it
Turn the POWER SWITCH to ON
Turn the CHOKE to FULL on (all the way to the right)
Push the THROTTLE all the way up
Pump the PRIMER 8-10 times
Put on ear protection (ear muffs in 2nd drawer from bottom in red tool chest)
Pull the STARTER HANDLE- this puppy usually starts on the first or second try.
To drive it
Put the transmission into speeds 1 or 2
Your right hand controls the  clutch- squeeze it  to  engage the wheels and blower
At this time, "Reverse" doesn not work… avoid getting the  machine into situations where you must use it
At this time, the "Impellor" engage level does not work- ASSUME the impellor is always turning!
Clearing pattern-
For some reason, blowing snow to the right works better than blowing to the left, so…
I clear from the middle of the driveway and work my way out.
First I clear a 6' wide strip in front of the garage by hand so I have a place to turn around
Then I adjust the chute so it's pointing to the RIGHT.
Then I cut a path down the middle of the driveway and up the hill to the road.
I turn around in the road and come back down the hill, always clearing on the right side of the path.
Turn around in front of the garage and go back up the hill, staying on the right side.
Repeat until done.
Clearing a Jam
When the snow is very heavy and wet, it can get jammed up in the chute.
If this happens-
move the machine to a cleared spot so it's not trying to throw snow
put the transmission in neutral
try clearing the jam by pushing down on the handling and then letting go, so the front slams down on the ground.  Do this with the impellor engaged.
if this doesn't work after 5-6 tries…
stop the engine
use a broom handle or something to clear the jam
start the engine
Note that the silicon in the chute helps avoid this problem.
Also note that if this happens more than 2-3 times, consider doing it by hand because it's going to keep happening.
Fuel
Takes unleaded gas; there's several red plastic gas buckets in the corner of the garage- use one of them
