days 9 and 10 tuesday and wednesday, 12-aug-2003
george flew up to toronto to bring our cabinets home.  They were custom built by our friend dave van der schaaf (who also did some work for us in CA!).  He's actually a master cabinet maker and owns his own company, Dadon Carpentry .  Dave and his crew did a spectacular job on our boxes- thank you very much!

    day 8 - monday, 11-aug-2003 1530pm
we're getting there- the plasterer just left and now we're 3 coats of paint away from dropping in the boxes... Note the blue tape on the floor- that's where the island cabinets are going.

All the existing recessed lights over the island had to move; this morning they all got replaced

    day 7 - sunday, 10-aug-2003 1200pm
walls are all insulated and poly-wrapped; boarding them this afternoon...

    day 6 - saturday, 9-aug-2003 1830pm-
today george finished installing the raw oak floor- tomorrow we close the walls...
... This should have been easy but mating the new oak to the old was a challenge; so george had to fight with this hard and eventually whittled a single wide board to take up all the slack. Here's what it looked like when he finished

    day 5 - friday, 8-aug-2003 1830pm-
    more progress-
    • george's dad came up to help with doing the oak floor.
    • the plumbers returned and did the island sink vent
    • the plumber inspection came and was not happy with the venting work...a quick call to the plumbers and they came back and fixed it in no time
Click here for a LARGE panoramic image that shows how torn up stuff really is!

    day 4 - thursday, 7-aug-2003 1700pm-

    day 3 - wednesday, 6-aug-2003 1830pm-
the new window is in!  Thanks much to george's dad, kevin and christopher..!

    day 3 - wednesday, 6-aug-2003 1145am-
George's dad has been up helping us- here he is in action.
p.s. the new window is all framed here...!
siding problems- we had to remove and replace the siding around the window and discovered lots of rot at the sill (both the cedar siding and the plywood were involved)... so we ripped out the affected plywood and replaced with PT plywood... this shouldn't be a problem again...

    day two - tuesday, 5-aug-2003 0700am-
mj and the kids have left the house for the duration- right now all the old flooring has been removed...
