Sedona Visit

the house on the rock In the fall, 1997, Chris Wales and his parents invited us to spend a weekend in Sedona with them. We went and had a great time.
His parents live in Boston, and have an amazing vacation home in Sedona. It's the second oldest house in the valley, and was built way up on one of the red rocks way before they invented zoning.
The house was setup to take advantage of the views, and they're truly amazing!
Here's the view from inside the living room.

sedona house bedroom view We stayed in the upstairs guest bedroom; here's what we had to look at when we got up... tough life, eh?
Sedona is prototype SouthWestern USA and reminds me lots of the Grand Canyon. sedona looks like the grand canyon

When we arrived on Friday, we met his parents, then got cleaned up and went to play...GOLF... what else?
We got in 15 holes at the Sedona Golf Resort before we ran out of daylight and beer.

Sedona Jazz on the Rocks '97 The next day, Chris and George went and hit balls for an hour.
Then his parents treated us to the Sedona Jazz on the Rocks '97.
They went way overboard and got us seats in the Patrons tent, featuring great food and open bar all day long.
This annual affair featured stars like Dee Dee Bridgewater, Herbie Hancock, Mark DuFresne, and (our fav, shown here) Fattburger.

typical Oakcreek view Herbie Hancock was pretty far out there, so we bailed a bit early and got in 9 holes at Oakcreek CC before dark.
OAKCREEK CC is an amazing golf course. It backs up to the red rocks and you can see them from everywhere on the course. Golfing this way is lotsa fun, because if you miss a shot, so what??? typical Oakcreek green
another MGD moment SUNDAY morning came and we were back at Oakcreek for 18 holes this time.
Miller time started early- here's MJ and Chris on the second tee at 9:00AM...
It was a perfect day! We only had to wait on every other tee, prompting Chris to "fix" this sign... sedona Prozac moment
mj tanning at oakcreed MJ got to prove how coordinated she was.
Here she is, tending the pin and working on her tan at the same time...
Happily, we survived all 18 holes, albeit a little sunburned and tired... george and mj at oakcreek
chris and parents THEN we wandered back to the to change and pack.
George captured this Kodak moment on film.
HERE's Doug and Adele with their little boy, Chris...
And then, it was time to return to real life.
HERE we are on the steps, looking forward to the next time we're together again.
all of us on sedona steps
PS- Doug and Adele Wales are the GREATEST hosts ever- they opened up their home to us, cooked for us, took us to dinner and the festival, etc...
Thank you very much for putting up with us.
MJ has even volunteered to let you adopt her if you ever need another daughter... ;*)
