The Mudbowl - SF vs. GB

For Christmas 1996, MJ got George the ultimate gift- playoff tickets to the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field. final scoreboard
superbowl trophy HERE's what the fuss is all about- getting one of these to take home at the end of the season.

This is the Lombardi trophy from SuperBowl I.

Anyhow, MJ gave George some of these for Christmas.
We flew to Green Bay, Wisconsin to go see the Packers play the San Francisco 49ers at Lambeau Field.

art and bev The night before the game, we hooked up with Art and Bev from Detroit.
They were really cool, and when they headed for this local bar- Shenanigans- and we tagged along.

george and fuzzy It turns out this bar is owned and operated by the one and only Fred ("Fuzzy") Thurston, a great Packer lineman from the 60s. We got to hang out with him for a bit. He's also in the Packer Hall of Fame- here's his exhibit. fuzzy stuff at hall of fame

THE next day dawned cold and gray, highs about 30, wind howling and raining like hell.
We had prepared for everything except rain, so George went down to the local
hardware store and bought tarps for us to wear.

mj outside stadium AFTER a quick bus ride, we made it to Lambeau field, home of the Green Bay Packers!
The tailgating was in full swing at 9:00 in the morning- these fans know how to party!

Lambeau is an amazing place to see a game- there isn't a bad seat in the house.
Our seats were awesome- we were on the 35 yard line in the 9th row, no more than 25 yards from the Packer bench!
Here's was our view of the game
view from 9th row

And Packer fans are terrifically loyal and rabid. 60,797 people showed up
for the game- an all time record- and only 3 tickets went unused!

us in stands It was lots of fun! Despite the cold and rainy conditions, the faithful were screaming for their team from the opening bell until well after the game was done.

And the Pack didn't disappoint us- the first time we got the ball,
Desmond Howard ran it back 71 yards for a score; and the Pack never looked back after that.
We stomped the Niners 35-14, and the game wasn't even that close.

WE'RE already looking forward to next year- we have to go back again
just to experience the Pack!
