Last winter, George got a cold and his right ear got all stopped up.
However, this cold was different- when it got better, his hearing was still messed up.
Being a manly-man, he waited several months before seeing a doctor; when he finally went, he learned he had a condition known as colesteatoma and it would require surgery.
On 16-jul-02, he went in for a 4 hour procedure in which they enlarged the ear canal, removed the ear drum, removed a bone and reconstructed the other 2, replaced the ear drum and closed it up.
At 1 week, the bandage came off
At 2 weeks, all the remaining packing was removed
At 6 weeks, we cut back
to 1 dose of ear drops per day, but hearing was still shakey.
This procedure was performed by Dr. Michael McKenna at Mass Eye and Ear and they were terrific!
