Florence

We arrived in Florence at 9PM on Sunday night without a reservation.
We quickly located our hotel for the following night and they had a room (woo-hoo!)
The next day (Monday), most of the galleries were closed, so we walked around a bunch.
We saw the Duomo and climbed the Bell Tower (click for more pix).
We also visited the Science Museum (cool stuff from Galileo et. al, 400-600 AD)
HERE's a good shot of the Ponte Vecchio bridge (where Alice's daughter Brenda lived ;-)
The Medici Palace was also impressive...
...and the statues just amazing!

That night, we caught up with MJ's traveling companions from Ebay.
From the left, Robin, Kathy, George and MJ, having a birthday dinner.
We wanted to see the Uffizi Gallery but tix sell out months in advance... so George got in line at 7AM to wait for the 8:30 opening...
MJ showed up at 8:15 (with breakfast!)
Then they announced the museum wasn't opening until 10:30 that day- so 2 more hours in line!
We decided to wait it out (along with a thousand others); and it was worth it.

By 1 we were sprinting back to our hotel and to the train to head for Siena and the agrotourismo in Pianella!
