WE recently spent a weekend skiing the Bear with Zoran and Anita. Neither of them had
been on skis in 10 years and they were anxious to get back into it. So we rented Terry Gomes cabin in Arnold. It's a nice place, sleeps 6, and it's only 30 miles from the Bear. Bad news is, it's at 5000 feet and if you want to use the driveway, you get to shovel it. Since it snowed pretty much the whole time we were there, we shoveled often... |
On Saturday, we put chains on the
car and headed to the Bear. Conditions sucked big time! It snowed hard all day and the
wind was howling, creating whiteout conditions. At times, visibility was 50 feet and you
couldn't tell where you were going... By the end of the day, we were all frozen and just
wanted to get home and get warm. But Zoran was psyched anyway- he announced Sunday would be much better... and it was. |
EVEN though the crack weatherman
from Sacramento predicted more gloom and snow for Sunday, we woke up to blue skies and
sun! It was beautiful! So we headed off to ski some more. HERE's George, Anita and MJ in the parking lot, all ready to ski! |
CONDITIONS were great! 15' base,
packed powder, groomed- what else could you ask for? Zoran quickly regained his form from 10 years ago- he's very good. HERE's George, Zoran and MJ up at the top- what a day! |
Anita did great also- she was skiing
circles around George in no time... oh, well, every group needs an anchor.... HERE's Anita and MJ taking a break at the base. Also, Anita complained that her photographer (Zoran) always cut off her feet... so this photographer rectified that by getting a special shot of her feet. |
WE skiied all day and were tired at
the end. Here we are out on the deck having a glass of wine apres ski... Note- the grey haired gentleman directly above Anita is Robert Conrad from the 60's TV show "The Wild, Wild West". He's a regular at the bear |
And a great time was had by all, and
we all got home safe. (now Zoran is pushing me to go again- soon. Stay tuned...) |
