AltaVista Corporation, Andover, MA.  (Mar. 2001 –June 2003)

 

·   Technical Director for the AltaVista Search Software group.  Responsible for maintenance and enhancements to the AltaVista Enterprise Software package.

·   Project Manager for the AltaVista Search Software front end interface team.  Responsible for overseeing the architecture and implemention of the AltaVista front end library which is used for interacing with the core AV search modules.  Personally responsible for delivering the OOB (Out-Of-the-Box) search application in Java, JSP and VBScript and a full set of sample programs illustrating all of the package functionality.

 

AltaVista Corporation, Palo Alto, CA.  (Jun. 1999 – Mar. 2001)

 

·   Technical Director responsible for front-end HTML group.  Managed several teams that were responsible for the HTML templates used to generate all pages on http://www.altavista.com.  At the peak, we generated $16M / quarter in custom work.

·   Project Manager for Webster, a project that enabled the sales force to sell query keyword to advertisers.  Responsible for taking over a late project and getting it back on track and pushing version 1.0 out the door.

·   Technical Lead on the AltaVista Community website project.  Led group of 4 engineers in design and implementation of end-user driven website generation tool.

 

Zip2 Corp, Mountain View, Calif.  (Jan. 1997 – May 1999)

 

·   Technical Lead on www.HomeHunter.com, an Internet-based residental real estate search package bundled with newspaper websites.  Responsible for a large piece of architecture and coding of Netscape Enterprise server plugin; also responsible for development and maintainence of MS SQL database to hold listing data and generating pages using HTML and templates.

 

Intuit, Mountain View, Calif.  (Feb. 1992 – Jan. 1997)

 

·   Project Manager and Technical Lead on BankNOW, an on-line banking package for AOL.  Responsible for a large piece of architecture and coding, ranging from the UI down to talking to the comm layer. 

·   Worked on QConnect, the data transport layer between Quicken and other Intuit products, like TurboTax, etc.  Designed and implemented last minute modifications so Quicken Windows 6.0 would ship on time.

·   Created a speech-driven version of Quicken.  This prototype utilized the IBM voice recognition package to implement a speaker-independent grammar. 

·   Designed and implemented a Sprite Authoring tool and player.  This internal tool  enabled slicing and dicing .AVI files into sprites, then authoring scripts to make the sprites perform.  Required extensive knowledge of palettes, .BMPs, anti-aliasing and screen BLT technology.

·   Project manager for Quicken 8 for DOS.  Lead a team of 4 SW engineers, 6 QA engineers and 2 documentors to produce this product.  Also responsible for specification and implementing Snapshot Report, Forecasting and Paycheck features.

·   Individual contributor on Quicken 6 and Quicken 7 for DOS.  Responsible for Financial Calculators, CheckFree Fixed payments, Comparison reports, and reimplementing Investment accounts.

 

 

Pacer Software, Westboro, Mass.  (Dec. 1989 - Dec. 1991)

 

·   Project leader of group of 3 chartered to produce a terminal emulator package for Win30 and Win31.  Responsibilities included:

- Overall architecture of entire package.

-  Implementation of MDI Windowing scheme.

-  Implementation of Menus and Keyboard accelerators.

- Design and implementation of .DLLs to do emulation of VT320 and VT340 terminals.

-  Implementation and utilization of Custom Fonts for the VT320.

-  Implementation of Custom Controls to display the toolbar and tab stops.

-  Implementation of Modal and Modeless dialogs utilizing all built-in controls; used Owner-Draw List Boxes to association session names and icons.

- Installed and utilized Message Hooks to alter dialog box behavior.

- Utilized WinHelp() to implement on-line Help via the F1 Hot key.

- Wrote the Help text for the main package and emulator modules.

   All work was done in 'C' and assembler, using the MS Windows 3.0 and 3.1 SDKs.

·   Designed and implemented an OS/2 device driver for Daystar Localtalk card and the 8530 port on a 3Com 3S/400 Server.

·   Investigated and designed a network FAX Server to run on 3Com servers.

·   Designed and implemented a stand-alone Voice Messaging system running on ConcurrentDOS.  Utilized a Brooktrout voice card and library to digitize voice data, answer the phone, play back messages, etc. .

·   Designed and implemented a DOS-based PBX Reporting program for the retail market.  Responsible for the menu-driven user interface as well as data collection and management.

Pacer Software, Inc., Westboro, Mass.  (Aug. 1986 - Dec. 1989)

 

·   Designed and implemented several Graphical Terminal Emulators to work with the Pacer MS/DOS product (pcLink).  Emulated terminals included Digital's VT240, Prime's PT200 and the Tektronics 4010/4014 terminal.  All work done in 'C' and assembler, utilizing the GSS Graphics package.  Product is currently shipping.

·   Produced the Scripting Language for pcLink.  Responsible for language specification and implementation, including the parser and execution engine.  Product is currently shipping.

·   Designed and implemented DOS Device Drivers for Apple, DayStar and TOPs Localtalk cards.

 

Access Technology, Inc., South Natick, Mass.  (Jun. 1983 - Aug. 1986)

 

·   Responsible for the MS/DOS version of 20/20 (a spreadsheet).  This included:

     -   Initial port of the code to DOS

     -   Implementing a Terminal Driver and Memory Manger for the DOS environment.

     -   Generating Graphics Interface to HALO, DRI and GSS packages.

·   Ported 20/20 to DEC Rainbows and Wang PCs.  Required different terminal drivers and graphics interfaces.

·   Designed and implemented menu-driven Installation program for 20/20.

·   Worked on common source code on VAX, including rewriting the /Copy and /Move/Insert/Delete commands; ported memory manager back to the base VAX source.

 

 

3R Computers, (now Avatar) Westboro, Mass.  (Feb. 1982 - Apr. 1983)

 

·   Provided software support for CP/M rehost to new hardware.  This included initial boot of CP/M and relocation in memory.

·   Debugged custom BIOS.

·   Designed and implemented a hard disk partitioning program.

·   Developed Comm package for ASCII file transfers between CP/M machines and host computers (VMS, Prime, UNIX boxes).

·   Developed terminal emulator to make an IBM 3278 act like a VT100.

 

 

Data General Corporation, Westboro, Mass.  (Nov. 1976 - Jun. 1981)

 

·   Designed and implemented Microcode Boot program for the MV/8000 machine.  Program parsed AOS disk file structure using Nova 800 assembly code.

·   Assisted in debugging MV/8000 prototype hardware and microcode (the “Soul of a New Machine” project).

·   Designed and implemented Non-Sparse Pagefiles within the AOS/VS Kernel.

·   Designed and implemented the AOS/VS System Debugger and User Debugger and binary File Editor.

·   Designed and implemented an interactive software emulator for the MV/8000 instruction set to run on Eclipse computers.

·   Maintained INFOS, the RDOS/AOS Database facility.  Responsibilities included INFOS maintenance; and maintenance of ISORT, the INFOS Soft/Merge utility.

 

 

General Dynamics Corp, Electric Boat Division, Groton, Ct.  (Jul. 1975 – Nov. 1976)

 

·   SW engineer working on large Fortran app to do automated pipe bending instructions for use in manufacturing submarines.

·   Designed and implemented a Cross-Assembler package for RT-11 and RDOS.  Features included producing relocatable code, macro capabilities and conditional assembly support.

·   From this initial package, produced cross-assemblers for the Motorola 6800, Intel 8008/8085, Zilog Z-80 and National SC/MP chips.
